Behind the DEbut Single "It's Like..."

For years I couldn't write a love song for my husband because there was too much to say and I wasn't ever sure that the words I would write would do justice. So one day during the Covid-19 Pandemic, I turned that concept itself into a song and it couldn't be more spot on for us. The song is romantic, pensive, adventurous, and fun - just like us.

I especially like the lyrics of the bridge which adds in the flavor of our relational dynamic. My husband earned the name "volcano" because he is always exploding with ideas but the unique trait he holds is that he actually does something about them. Some people call that crazy. He's always sharing new ideas with me and I'm always like, "you are out of your mind." haha! I am the more cautious of the pair and prone to overthinking so he is always telling me, "Let's go!" He's encouraged me to take leaps without worrying and to just go for it. And with all the huge leaps we have taken together, we have always been fine. He's my number one supporter. So that is why I'm releasing this song first. One more fun fact, “You and I” by Michael Buble was the song for our first dance at our wedding. I recorded myself singing it and surprised him when he heard it was my voice instead. So the repeated line, "you and I" means what it says, but it also hold special meaning to us. Behind the Single "enough"

I am really excited about my second single release! It is a song called "Enough" and is an empowering and motivating song that I hope all listeners will take to heart.

There are so many messages thrown at us in our lifetime. And one we don't have to believe is that we aren't "(fill in the blank) enough." The chorus of this song is really big and says, "You are enough...don't let them make you believe who you are is not enough." And the bridge motivates further, "You can't reach for the stars if you're not looking up. You can be who you are when you know that you are enough." This is a song I have on repeat when I workout or have any measure of self doubt. I have to listen to my own song to motivate myself! I also love this song because I had the priviledge of working with multi-platinum, Grammy award-winning producer, audio engineer, and mixer, Andros Rodriguez. We are both really proud of this one! This single will release mid April so stay tuned.

Shannan Copland is a pop singer-songwriter and voiceover artist based in Portland, Oregon. Originally from California, she developed a passion for music, piano, and voice at an early age, immersing herself in every musical opportunity available. Tell us about the song "Close"?

One rainy day I was in a songwriting session and this really sweet tune developed. It had such a lullaby type feel and also gave off vibes of "What Was I Made For" by Billie Eilish.

As I worked on the lyrics it quickly developed into a song for my girls. By the time I finished the first verse I was completely covered in sentimental tears and I couldn't see the screen to keep going. Every time I sat down to work on this song I was left in a puddle of tears as the visuals and tune grabbed onto my heartstrings so tightly and wouldn't let go. I can get pretty sentimental and I really value savoring every memory I can with my kids. This song is a special tribute to the unique bond between parent and child. "Close" is the perfect song to add to your Mother's Day playlist or just a song to send over to someone who can relate to these lyrics.

This upbeat, feel-good track encourages listeners to seize the moment before it passes. It’s an ideal addition to a “year in review” playlist or any collection celebrating memorable highlights and is perfect for a New Year's Party playlist. The verses capture the essence of slowing down to fully embrace the present, while the chorus bursts with carefree energy and joy, reminding us to savor life’s moments without worrying about what’s next. I'm naturally a sentimental person, and I wrote this song over the summer while watching my kids play. Every moment passes in just a blink. Being a mom of young kids, I'm constantly reminded to be present, to soak it in, and not wish the moment away. There are just SO MANY amazing moments and I wish I could just bottle them all up! There is really no wonder why this phrase has been passed throughout history since penned in Horace's Odes in 23BC. I don't want to let regret have the last say. Carpe Diem - Seize the Day!

Hurricane

Now writing this on the other side of the hardest moments of grief….  This song is my attempt to put into words the unexpected journey of grief I’ve been on since losing my mom the day after Christmas in 2020. Grief is often described as coming in waves, but for me, it felt more like being pulled into a storm I couldn’t escape. Sometimes, the storm would calm, and I’d find an inexplicable moment of peace, but then, without warning, it would hit again—flooding me with the overwhelming pain of loss, and bringing back the most difficult emotions. Amidst this emotional turmoil, I felt a deep pull to music. The downbeat became the heartbeat of my grief—it was relentless and heavy, but in a strange way, it also became a source of peace. I chose to sink into it, to let it pull me in, almost like I was floating in the rhythm of my own pain, and in that rhythm, I felt closer to my mom. Music was something we shared when she was here, and in the aftermath, it became my way of staying connected to her. In the face of grief, I found a strange comfort in the downbeat—the beat that both drove me forward and offered me moments of calm. It's as if the music carried me through the storm, and in sinking into it, I found a space where my grief could exist without drowning me. The downbeat, that steady pulse, became my anchor—and in it, I found my peace and a deeper connection to my mom.
